The St. Louis Cardinals are going to place first baseman Lance Berkman around the 15-day disabled list having a left calf injuries he irritated chasing after a popup.
Gm John Mozeliak stated they would activate utilityman Skip Schumaker in the DL prior to Friday night's game at Pittsburgh. Schumaker was on the rehab stint with Triple-A Memphis and performed center area Wednesday evening, going 2 for 4.
Berkman stated he required a poor step pursuing a popup, irritating an injuries that sidelined him a week ago. Instead of fight with the injuries, the club felt it better if Berkman take lots of time to recover.
Prior to the Cardinals performed the Yellows on Thursday, manager Mike Matheny stated Berkman was daily without any alternation in his condition in the previous evening. But Berkman thought after Wednesday night's game that he'd need a while.
"It does not appear like it will likely be certainly one of individuals that you could really proceed,Inch Berkman stated. "It's certainly frustrating. I do not like missing time, I love finding yourself in there, being productive."
The 36-year-old Berkman was batting .348 with two RBIs in seven games. He wasn't within the selection Thursday from the Yellows.
"I certainly think it is workable also it wasn't prohibitive," Berkman stated. "I required a poor board that popup also it really type of irritated it very good.Inch
Rookie Matt Contractor, who made the club due to Schumaker's injuries, has began another six games in the beginning base. He joined your day batting .375 with one homer and was one of the league leaders with 11 RBIs.
Schumaker batted .283 this past year in 367 at-bats with two homers and 38 RBIs because the primary second baseman. Before he was hurt in spring training, they had imagined him like a super utilityman who may also start whatsoever three outfield spots.
